Movies

When you think of going to the movies, what do you think of? The movies, the popcorn? I think of how expensive it is. The tickets alone are eight dollars during the day and at night they're a whopping eleven dollars. That's not the worst, it's the food you buy. When you finally go see the movie, you've at least spent thirty dollars and you're just now sitting down.

The sad thing is if you're going with your family, you're going to pay more then forty dollars. Which is not including snacks. Maybe after with snacks its coming to maybe fifty dollars. Which is so much to spend just at the movie theater.

In the 1970's, there were not only the cheap movies, but a ton of films that were actually in really good quality. When a ticket is under a dollar, you've done good. Then comes snacks, so you're totally that you spent at the movies is maybe ten dollars, even if you went with a person or not!

Things are getting so pricey these days it's ridiculous. When I was growing up all I heard from my mom was how gas use to be a quarter a gallon or a jug of milk was only a dollar. I won't be surprised if when I'm fifty years old, the movies will cost fifty dollars alone just for going on a date. Or maybe, there won't even be a movie theater.

The Makeup

When you think of the 1950's, what do you think of? The way they dressed, the way people talked, or the way women wore their makeup? I think of the makeup! The way to describe the 1950's makeup would be, it was glamorous decade for women's makeup. Creams were the thing that was in. It was used in place for foundations that are used today. Women used creams and eye shadow a lot! It was the era of the 'mask effect'. A thick creamy application of 'foundation' and a dab of red/pink colored powder to apply on their cheeks. Eyebrows still had a natural look but more tapered with. If there was a 'color' to define the 1950's, it would have to be pink/red. That's all they would wear on their lips for lipstick.

Teens of the 1960s

The times have changed since teenagers of the 1960s were attending high school. Most modern day teenagers will discover that they have had a much different school experience than that of their parents. Socially acceptable behavior and expectations, both inside and outside the classroom, have been switched. In the 1960's, preparing to go to college was not as forced as much as it is in 2015. It was not as important to go to college.

One could have a high school education and still get a decent job after graduating. This is becoming impossible with the way the school systems are. How they require so much schooling towards it. As a result, the average student did not have as much homework as today's students have. If college was in someone's future, admission was based a lot of if you were in sports or had a perfect GPA.

Being in sports, doing community service, and maintaining a job were not requirements for colleges as they are today. Few teenagers even had jobs while in high school in the 1960's. In 2015, at least half of all teens attending school have, at one time or another, had a job. As our society grows more complicated, the future for us teenagers of 2015 become more difficult.

Teenagers stayed innocent much longer than teens do today. Dress codes required much more modest apparel and were strictly enforced. Girls had to wear skirts that went to their knees or be sent home. Teens went to bed early and got up early, although not as early as some of the schools today require, sleeping about nine hours. Many teens in 2015 are lucky to get six hours of sleep due to the late bedtimes and early rising times. Of course, teenagers today sleep in on the weekends and teenagers then did not.

Drive-In Movies

During the 1950's-1970's Drive-In's were very popular. They were mostly a form of a cinema structure with a large outdoor movie screen, a projection booth, a concession stand and a large parking area for cars. Anyone could watch the movie from their car, they could have privacy and be comfortable while enjoying the movie.

The screen was as simple as a wall that was painted white. Originally, a movie's sound was provided by speakers on the screen and later by an individual speaker hung from the window of each car, which would be attached by a wire.

This system was superseded by the more economical and less damaging method of broadcasting the soundtrack at a low output power on AM or FM radio to be picked up by a car radio. Going to Drive-In's made Saturday nights fun. It was really popular to do during that time. Sadly, they have slowly faded away. There is a couple still around that are fully operating. Going to Drive-In's were what was 'popular' to do during the 50's-70's.
